I mentioned the handsome lands of the Village People in a previous post about mustaches. The boys made news recently after their song YMCA reached number one on the Billboard Charts for the first time after its release 45 years ago.
The Village People released YMCA in 1978, and it rose up the Billboard Charts, but it never reached number one. In 2024, it reached number one for the first time after Donald Trump started using the song at his political rallies.
Lead singer of the Village People and co-writer of the song Victor Willis complained about Trump using the song and voiced his disapproval at first. However, Willis softened his stance after YMCA hit number one and made him more money. Willis stated that his change in view of Trump’s use of the song was “good for business.”
Willis has more than just softened his stance; he has fully embraced Trump’s use of the song, and the Village People performed it at President-elect Trump’s pre-inaugural eve rally.
