Brady Bunch House Now Historical Cultural Landmark

Just this week, the City of Los Angeles has designated the “Brady Bunch House” a local landmark.

The iconic Mid Century Modern home was used for exterior shots for the TV sitcom “The Brady Bunch.” Interior scenes were filmed on a soundstage at Paramount Studios.

In 2019, HGTV bought the home and renovated the interior to match the long-gone TV sets and used the deconstruction/construction process for a limited-run series.

Interest in the home skyrocketed after the completion of the series. HGTV sold the home and opened it to limited tours. My daughter toured the home and took many photos. She said the woman who owns the house now was very cordial and welcoming to tourists.

Many tourists have posted videos and selfies of their stay in the Brady Bunch House online and on social media.

Reporting by the media across the nation

The iconic Brady Bunch house in Studio City, Los Angeles, has been officially designated as a historic-cultural monument.

The Los Angeles City Council voted unanimously on March 4, 2026, to grant the Brady Bunch house historic landmark status, recognizing its cultural and architectural significance. Located at 11222 W. Dilling Street in Studio City, the two-story Contemporary Ranch-style home was built in 1959 by architect Harry Londelius Jr. and became famous as the exterior setting for the television series The Brady Bunch, which aired from 1969 to 1974. While interior scenes were filmed on soundstages, the house’s façade, driveway, and yard became iconic symbols of suburban Los Angeles life.

Cultural and Architectural Significance

The home’s distinctive mid-century design, including its gabled roof, split-level layout, and large windows, helped define the visual identity of the show and influenced generations’ perception of blended-family life in America. The landmark designation protects the property from demolition or major renovations without review, ensuring its preservation for future generations. The interior was meticulously renovated by HGTV in 2019 to replicate the original television sets, including the floating staircase and retro kitchen, further enhancing its cultural authenticity.

Community and Preservation Efforts

The designation followed strong support from fans, the original cast, and the Cultural Heritage Commission, which initially considered limiting protections to the exterior but ultimately included the interior due to its recreated historical significance. The house has also been used for charity events and public tours, highlighting its ongoing role as a pop-culture landmark.
