I attended a writing workshop on June 21, 2024, and found it disappointing.
I do not recommend Writing Day Workshops.
Four of the seven agents scheduled to attend the workshop didn’t show up. The agent I was scheduled to meet was one of those who didn’t attend. I was unable to pitch my book to any agent. I was given the option of attending a Zoom meeting with an agent and other writers some weeks and months in the future. I declined the offer of a Zoom meeting.
One of the agents who did show up lived in a small town in Wisconsin and was a middle school language arts teacher. She did agent work in her spare time and did not appear to be well-connected in the publishing industry.
I don’t know the credentials of the other two agents who did show up, but I was thoroughly unimpressed with the whole situation.
The agents who did show up didn’t like my book. During the first page, out loud reading and critique, they stopped halfway because they didn’t like it. They didn’t even read a whole page. I emailed the person in charge of the workshop about this, and he said I should feel fortunate since some people didn’t even get anything read out loud.
Although it is highly praised by some, and their website touts success stories, I do not recommend Writing Day Workshops.
The photo above is NOT from the workshop I attended. It is from their website. It shows seven agents at the front table, and it is what I expected when I arrived. As I said previously, I was disappointed with the lackluster turnout of agents.
