When I was a young child, my mother started telling me, with frequent recurrence, that when she grew old, she would go out on an ice floe and float away, like the “Eskimos” do. She wanted to end her life rather than being a burden to the family. What a great think to tell a child.
There are conflicting sources online as to whether Inuit people do this to their elderly or not, either in the past or the present.

However, Mother is 88 years old now and has lived with me for the past ten years. She is frail and is a burden on me and my family.
I’m still waiting for her to jump onto the ice!
So far, no such luck!!
